How Shamble Works

Four simple steps that combine team strategy with individual play.

1

All Players Tee Off

Every player on the team hits their tee shot, just like a scramble.

2

Select the Best Drive

The team picks the best tee shot. Everyone moves their ball to that spot.

3

Play Your Own Ball

From the chosen drive location, each player plays their own ball individually to the hole.

4

Best Score Counts

The best individual score (or scores) from the team counts as the team score for that hole.

Frequently Asked Questions

What's the difference between Shamble and Scramble?

In a Shamble, the team selects the best drive, then each player plays their own ball individually from that spot to the hole. In a Scramble, the team picks the best shot on every shot — drive, approach, chip, and putt — so you're never playing your own ball. Shamble rewards individual skill after the tee.

How many players per team?

Shamble tournaments support 2 to 4 players per team. The most common format is 4-player teams, but 2-player and 3-player variants work great too.

What is Texas Shamble?

Texas Shamble adds a fairness rule: each player's drive must be used a minimum number of times during the round (typically 4 out of 18 holes for a 4-person team). This ensures every team member contributes off the tee and prevents relying solely on the longest hitter.

How do handicaps work in a Shamble?

The USGA recommends using 80% of each player's individual course handicap for shamble tournaments. The app calculates this automatically based on each player's handicap index, the course slope, and course rating.

Is this a Premium feature?

Yes, creating Shamble tournaments requires a Premium subscription. However, all players (free and premium) can participate once invited to a team.
